Agile Development: Benefits, Challenges, and Organizational Change

Greg Wittenbrook

Despite the many benefits, many insurance organizations have struggled to make the move to agile development. To aid organizations as they consider the implementation of agile, I’ve authored a new report, Agile Development: Benefits, Challenges, and Organizational Change, which covers some of the major benefits that can be expected and the key challenges to be faced.  I also discuss areas that will likely see change as part of the agile journey.

The report is not a tutorial, but is instead designed to help CIOs understand the benefits of agile development and to prepare themselves and their organizations for the changes necessary to achieve these benefits. There are a number of different approaches for implementing agile. The key is that the approach should follow the principles behind the Agile Manifesto with the vast majority of organizations implement some combination of Scrum and XP often while retaining some traditional approaches.  Regardless of the approach used, many of the concepts and approaches are similar, reflecting the 12 Principles of Agile from the Agile Manifesto.
